Rough Week

comments 4

Oh boy.

So in my last post I was all like ‘sewing mah work wardrobe!’ right?  Well, this week, I found out I won’t have a job after January-ish.  So… definitely bummed.  My contract runs out and it won’t be renewed.   It’s not fun being Tiff right now…

It also hasn’t been a great sewing month for me.  I had planned to sew a Reglisse and a Zinnia with some Spoonflower fabric I made for Sewcialist’s Green December challenge.  Except:

I’ve made two (TWO!!) Reglisse bodices, and I cannot get the bow to sit flat without flipping the facing out for all to see.  And my Spoonflower fabric won’t be arriving until next month.  It’s been a rough week, and scarily I lost my sewing mojo a little…

So let’s talk about some of my non-sewing interests for now.

I dusted off all my toy cams and organised my old photos and had serious nostalgia pangs from doing so.  I want to get back to toy photography but film is so dang expensive to develop nowadays, not to mention it’s hard to find someone to do it.

I also broke my nail polish buying ban (it lasted about 4 months I think) for two Essie polishes because nail polish makes all of life’s problems better.  And Bourjois’ Happy Light primer is the bomb.

Ok, back to sewing stuff:

a) Indie Stiches is amazing guys, go buy from them.  I bought two patterns a day before they were going to announce a sale, and they automatically refunded me the difference because they didn’t want me to miss out.  Awesome customer service, I reward you!  I’ve already bought two more patterns with the code INDIESANTA for 20% off everything.  Also, can I just say, free shipping within Australia?

b) I’m drafting and digitizing sewing patterns guys!  I get so many searches for ‘boatneck t drafting’ or something similar that I thought I’d try my hand at making a pdf pattern of my boatneck tee.  The thing is I’m pretty much entirely self taught from books, so there are times when I have no idea what I am doing, so I’m not sure where I’m going with this myself.

Soooo… all in all a really rough week for me, but I’m hanging in there like a cat on a branch.  I hope I still have a fantastic 2014 despite everything :(.

OH I nearly forgot:

I am currently sewing an Archer for Archer Appreciation Month, so I guess some sewing mojo is back?

  1. I’m so sorry about your job. Have been there (twice!) and it does work out, you’ll be ok. Sewing definitely helps, also like your cheering beauty shopping! Xx

    • Thank you so much. I feel awful saying this, but hearing other people’s stories about losing their jobs makes me feel a bit better (only because I can see that they’re alive and well and it’s not the end of the world!).

  2. Linnie Bird says

I yi yi yi – the lost-my-job-terrors – not a happy time. But – (and I am really really old, so you can trust me for sure!) there is never a door closing without one opening elsewhere – just look hard around you, and you will find it. Though it may not be the door nor the direction that you expect, trust in yourself and your skills, and away you fly! Cheers! Happy New Year!

Tell me what you think!
